Notes on Narrative

Narrative means the structure of the 'storyline.' It features character types and enigma codes. Enigmas are puzzles, something that has to be solved they make the narrative more interesting. There could be small enigmas like a clue or big enigmas like how the narrative will ever be resolved.

STRUCTURE
Structure is split up into 3 things:

• Equilibrium- how the film starts, normal life
• Disequilibrium- the problem that happens in the film that means the characters have to spend their time working out how to fix.
• New Equilibrium- happens after the climax of the film, the final battle, confrontation that happens in order to solve a problem and life can return back to normal and the resolution can occur. 

Different types of structure: 

• Linear- 3 part structure (beginning, middle, end)
• Non-linear- not a designated structure (think Pulp Fiction)
